Walla Walla University

WWU is a super-cool SDA school.

Faith

Then, hymnal bindings crack
in the dusty sunlight,
hairspray, straight stories
during prayer, children touch
the soles of shoes in front of them.
An apologetic mother takes
her screaming, sweater-vested son
out the doors while
the number of moons
around Venus shrinks,
and the number of windows
in the church shrinks, too.

~ Rebecca Parshall
2010 humanities graduate of Walla Walla University

Walla Walla University has an active humanities program, which, together with the  art and English departments, puts together a student-edited annual art and literature journal, the “Gadfly.”  All students, staff, faculty, and alumni are invited to submit items for consideration for inclusion, and many current students are included in the final product each year.  If you would like to submit pieces for the 2011-2012 Gadfly, email submissions to gadfly@wallawalla.edu.  You may purchase copies of previous publications by contacting the English department at 509-527-2862.  Rebecca Parshall’s poem was included in the 2009-2010 issue of the Gadfly.
